Light up Jorden

Light Up Jorden is an initiative to involve young people in Aarhus community center Jorden.For this project Aarhus Kommune gave the brief:

“How might we make children between the ages of 10-16 years act and think in a more socially sustainable way?”

Through a process of research, user consultation and co-creation we developed a two-part plan for Børnes and Beboernes Jord in AaarhusTwo events were run in November 2019 and plans and a recommendation were given to Aarhus Municipality.This project was created with Lisa Adele Rogersdotter, Sara Brixen and Katharine Graham.

 The first part involved an annual “Light Up Jorden” event. A facilitator kit was developed for pedagogues to run workshops for the children to make customized lights. A customizable solar-powered light was developed and the children were encouraged

The first part involved an annual “Light Up Jorden” event. A facilitator kit was developed for pedagogues to run workshops for the children to make customized lights. A customizable solar-powered light was developed and the children were encouraged to write their first name and street on their light. This gave them a sense of individuality while being part of the community.

 The second part involved a plan for the installation of permanent lighting to make Jorden feel safer and to extend the hours in which the community could play at Jorden particularly in the winter months when daylight hours are limited.
